Medical devices includes an extreme field of products ranging from dispenser products to dressing materials, cannulas, syringes, implants, operating room equipment, surgical instruments and so on. Due to the regulatory requirements (UDI – Unique Device Identification) and risk classification (classes 1 to 3), there are different coding requirements, starting with an item number, via batch, serial number up to manufacturing date and/or expiry date. The variety of materials to be labeled is a major challenge. Prevailing 2D matrix codes are used.
